So, my little girl begged and begged for a knitted piece. She went so far as to say, “I’ll pick out the yarn, mama, and let you take pictures!” Naturally, I couldn’t turn that offer down, especially when it is like puling teeth to get her to cooperate in front of the camera!
Sophie, my sickeningly sweet soon-to-be-7-year old daughter, sat down at the computer with me and proudly chose a bright pink yarn from Baah! — Sonoma, a delightfully squishy DK weight. It isn’t the easiest color to photograph, but man does it show off stitches BEAUTIFULLY!
I took my time swatching, determined to find the right stitch pattern. She grew impatient. I finally started, but had to rip a huge portion after knitting half of it (you should always check your numbers twice so you don’t mess up) and when I told her that I had to start most of it over, she had a huge hissy fit. I did, too! Ha! When I presented her the finished piece, though? She was thrilled. I mean, this kid acted like i had handed her trophy filled with candy! She stole my heart and made me sit down with more sketches for kid designs simply because of her sheer joy and appreciation. If only everyone had a Sophie in their life.
And thus, Sophie Tunic was created and I am so happy to share it with you today. Here’s the knitty gritty:
