Golden Morning. www.tabethahedrick.comThere’s just something about the title, “Golden Morning,” that makes my heart sing. I’m reminded of the gentle glow that scrapes over the world as the sun rises before most are even awake. I’m lucky enough that I get to experience that overwhelming light because I’ve been a dedicated early riser for 466 days now. I know, specific, huh?

It started as a lark over a year ago when I read a book called The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. In it, he stressed the importance of devoting time to all the things that make you feel good, do good, and BE good. You know what those things are: meditation, journaling, exercise, etc. We often make the excuse that there isn’t enough time in the day to get all of that done, but waking up just a little earlier allows you time to devote to yourself (for once). It wasn’t easy (at all) and the road has been bumpy, but I can safely say that after 466 days (I know because I mark the day in my journal each morning), it is a solid habit now (finally). Each day, I wake around 5:40 (sometimes a little later on the weekends, but the following routine is the same), stumble downstairs in the dark to drink a large glass of water. I make my cup of coffee and savor the softly growing light through my front windows … it truly is golden. And then I head to my “morning spot” to journal, study my spiritual scriptures, and meditate before the rest of the crew wakes up. My mornings have become necessary to my day, a grounding experience that sets me up to actually feel successful, content, and peaceful.

The pieces filling the pages of Golden Morning certainly evoke that contented feeling with beautifully simple texture and construction. I was honored to have my design, Rosalyn Tunic, included in the collection.

I am positively enamored with Astonish Top by Katy Banks and the charming simplicity of Nautical Pullover by Ann Weaver. Actually, they are going on my knitting list today.

The layout and photographs from the Knit Picks team are as lovely as always. In fact, I’d wager to say that they nailed the “early morning” glow in the lighting! If you are itching for a new pattern, head on over to purchase Rosalyn Tunic or the whole Golden Morning collection! In the meantime, I feel like giving away a copy of the book myself! Open to US Residents only for a chance to win a hard copy of Golden Morning. To enter, simply leave a comment telling me a little about your favorite morning ritual. I’d love to hear. I’ll choose a winner this Saturday (so get your entries in by midnight on Friday, April 24th!).

Comments are now closed. My random drawing software chose Moby Knit, so congratulations! 🙂

My favorite morning ritual is getting my daughter ready for school. We cuddle in her bed, get dressed, I grab coffee, we eat breakfast together, then play outside if the weather is nice and leisurely walk to the bus stop. I take a snapshot of her almost everyday.

My favorite morning ritual is enjoying a cup of tea at the table in the kitchen while listening to my children playing in the adjacent family room.

In the summer, I love to find some time to sit outside with a cup of coffee. Actually, anything I do with a cup of coffee in the morning is probably my favorite part of the morning!

How lovely! I walk to work whenever the weather allows (and it takes an ice storm to stop me). It’s my thinking time. On the best mornings I arrive at my office with my mind organized for the day, ready for a tasty chai latte.

I love to turn on a podcast and take the dog on a nice long walk followed by breakfast on the porch. Love this collection – your tunic is beautiful!

Thanks for the giveaway. I’ve been admiring the Golden Morning book. My favorite morning ritual is to get up early, while my partner is still snoring away, and settle in on the sofa with cat, green beverage, and knitting, to enjoy some quiet time in the warm sunshine.

My favorite morning ritual is nursing my infant son while he’s still sleepy. He’s such a cuddly little guy in the morning, and I’ll miss these special mornings when he’s older.

My favorite remaining morning ritual is a tie between my cat lying on my chest purring until I wake and taking the dog out to get the newspaper, and then sitting outside (not reading it) watching the morning brighten.

i honestly need more of a morning ritual — your post was so inspiring that it makes me actually want to get up earlier!
sadly, during the school year, my favorite part of the morning is slugging back a cup of coffee before ushering my kids out the door, but in a few more weeks it will be (glorious) summer vacation. in the summer i like to do a morning stroll through my garden beds — marveling in the dew on the leaves, plucking the errant weed, & just smelling the fresh dirt before the sun heats everything up!

Haha! I find that I need my morning even more during the school months just because my kids make me so crazy! Your morning garden stroll sounds divine!

Over the decades, my morning ritual has changed. I started getting out of bed earlier when my kids were young so that I could have a little peace and quiet before the rest of the family woke up. Thanks for jogging my memory– I’ve been meaning to do my devotions on the morning instead of later. I’m going to give that a try!

My favorite morning ritual is having a cup of coffee in my still quiet household, before anyone else gets up. These days, with spring here, the robins and other birds are singing, even though it is still dark.

I greet each morning with a cup of coffee, and a seat in the family room to enjoy the morning sun peeking over the trees. A treat of colors each morning.

My first five minutes. It’s quiet, no one is chattering, there’s nothing going on. I just sit. That’s my favorite.

I brew coffee, and one of my 6 cats always wants to be held while the coffee is brewing. Aurora cuddles and purrs and starts my day with gentleness and love.
